Mary Barton scored on a layup, and Sherwood's 3-pointer pushed the Saints ahead 48-47. The Hawks made two free throws before back-to-back triples by
Kayla Steward and Sherwood handed the Saints a 54-49 edge. The Saints took their biggest lead at 59-52 on a Barton jumper. Maryville was still up 63-58 before Rockhurst scored the last five points of regulation to force overtime.
Â
Rockhurst took the lead on a Morgan Harwood jumper to start the extra session. Barton had the answer to tie the game at 65-all. Neither team scored until Barton was fouled at the 1:48 mark, and she knocked down two charity tosses for a 67-65 lead. The Maryville defense forced a miss, and
Alex Wolf grabbed the carom. Barton split a pair at the line for a 68-65 lead. The Hawks had a final look from deep that would have forced a second overtime but the shot was errant at the buzzer as the Saints escaped with the win. Maryville swept the William Jewell-Rockhurst road swing for the first time since February 2012.
