Liberty, Mo. – The Maryville University women's soccer team scored early, but could not hold on as the Saints and William Jewell played to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo. in a key Great Lakes Valley Confernce match.
What Happened – The Saints cracked the scoreboard first in the third minute of the match as
Caite Huesgen scored her fourth goal of the year from the left wing to give Maryville a 1-0 early advantage.
Allison Verville and
Casey Gonzales were credited with the assists on the goal. The Cardinals scored the equalizer in the 84
th minute to even the match at 1-1, but Maryville had an opportunity late in the match. The Saints had the game-winning tally waved off due to a foul in front of the goal.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints had not given up a goal in over 300 minutes before the Cardinals late goal. Maryville outshot the Cardinals 18-12 with
Alison Riddle making seven saves in the contest.
How They Stand – Maryville improves to 6-2-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the GLVC while the Cardinals are now 6-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the GLVC.
Up Next – Maryville returns home to take on Rockhurst Friday, Oct. 6 in a key GLVC match-up. The game is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
