St. Louis – Freshman 
Alex Johnson scored a pair of goals to pace the Maryville University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Rockhurst University Friday afternoon. The win is the first time in nine tries that the Saints have defeated Rockhurst.
 
What Happened – Johnson opened the scoring for the Saints in the fifth minute as she took a pass from 
Caite Huesgen and drilled it to the lower right corner of the goal to stake Maryville to a 1-0 advantage. Rockhurst evened the match at 1-1 in the 13
th minute, but 
Allison Verville put the Saints on top for good in the 18th minute with a goal from 15-yards out to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage. Johnson added an insurance goal after she took a ball off that rebounded off the Rockhurst goalkeeper and put it in the back of the net in the 72
nd minute to give the Saints a 3-1 lead. 
Kristen Sparks and Huesgen were credited with the helpers on the goal.
 
Inside the Numbers – Johnson now leads the team with six goals and 12 points while Verville and Huesgen each have 10 points for the Saints. 
Alison Riddle earned seven saves on the day and improved her record to 7-1-2 on the season.
 
How They Stand – Maryville improves to 7-2-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the GLVC while the Hawks fall to 6-5-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the GLVC.
 
Up Next – Maryville continues play in the GLVC as the Saints welcome Drury University to Maryville Field on Senior Day. The match is set to begin at noon.
