Normandy, Mo. – Despite out-shooting the University of Missouri – St. Louis 13-9, the Maryville University women's soccer team fell to the Tritons 3-1 Friday evening at Don Dallas Field in Normandy, Mo.
What Happened – The Tritons struck first in the eighth minute to grab an early 1-0 advantage. The Saints answered in the 13th minute as
Erika Cross scored her first goal of the year off a free kick from
Stacie Muehling to knot the contest at 1-1. UMSL took the lead in the 28
th minute off a shot from 24-yards out to make the score 2-1. The Tritons added an insurance goal in the 90
th minute to seal the 3-1 victory.
Inside the Numbers – Allison Verville paced the Saints offense with three shots while Cross added of pair of shots in the loss.
How They Stand – Maryville falls to 7-4-3 overall and 6-3-3 in league play while the Tritons improved to 5-7-3 overall and 4-7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Up Next – Maryville wraps up their three-game road trip Sunday, Oct. 22, as the Saints travel to Lebanon, Ill. to take on McKendree University. The match is set to begin at noon.
