The Maryville volleyball team took set one at Kentucky Wesleyan but the Panthers rallied to take the next three sets in a 3-1 win. KWC prevails 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21. Ashley Selman paced the Saints with 14 kills while hitting a sparkling .684.
What Happened
The Saints were down 3-2 in the opener before rallying with six straight points. After two KWC errors, Taylor Schellert had a solo block and a kill. Maryville forced two errors to build an 8-3 lead. KWC closed to 11-8 but the Saints scored four straight points to steady themselves. Maryville took its largest lead as 21-13 and cruised to the win. In set two, the Saints built a 12-8 lead on a Natalia Pia kill. KWC mounted a rally and went up 15-14. Maryville was still down only 22-21 after Cassidy Arndt put down a pass from Addison Plant. However, the Panthers held on to tie the set.
Set three was close throughout and last tied at 18-18. The Panthers scored three straight before the Saints tied the score at 22-all. However, KWC had the final three scores to win the set. Maryville went up 8-7 in the fourth after a kill by Pia. The Panthers answered with four-in-a-row to reassume an 11-8 edge. The Saints drew as close as 13-11 but KWC used a 4-0 run to put the match away.
