Saints Finish the Regular Season with a 2-0 Win over UIndy

St. Louis – The Maryville University men's soccer team secured the second seed in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Soccer Championships with a 2-0 victory over the University of Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon. This is the second consecutive season that the Saints have qualified for the post-season tournament.

What Happened – The Saints broke onto the scoreboard in the 37th minute as Nico Andrade buried a penalty kick into the back of the net to give Maryville a 1-0 advantage. The Saints added an insurance goal in the 47th minute as Helgi Jonsson took a pass from Pontus Gitselov and put it into the lower right corner of the goal to give Maryville a 2-0 lead.

Inside the Numbers – Christian Kjaersgaard had four saves on the day to earn his ninth clean sheet of the year. He has not given up a goal in the past 347.35 minutes, dating back to Oct.13, 2017, against Missouri S&T. The shutout was also the 21st of his career, which ties him with Ed Canavan, who set the mark in 1993.

How They Stand – Maryville finished the regular season 12-2-2 overall and 10-2-2 in league play. The Greyhounds fall to 10-5-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the GLVC.
