Summary
Despite four players with at least 10 digs, the Maryville volleyball team had its bid for a road win come up short at Quincy Saturday afternoon. The Hawks won 25-23, 25-14, 25-13. Allison Lakin notched a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs to pace the Saints attack.
How it Happened
After trailing most of the first set, the Saints finally tied the score at 7-7. Quincy answered with the next five points before Maryville broke the run. QU still held the edge at 21-18 before Ashley Selman converted a kill. Addison Plant fed Natalia Pia for a kill, and Taylor Schellert's kill tied the set at 21-all. The teams traded points with Emma Basler's kill deadlocking the set at 22-22. Maryville saved one set point on a QU service error but the Hawks scored the next point to take the opener.
Selman's kill tied the second set at 8-8, and a QU hitting error handed the Saints a one-point lead. However, the Hawks scored five straight to take the lead. Selman and Pia worked a block to end the QU run but the Hawks stretched the lead to six and kept the Saints from making a charge.
Quincy had a hitting miscue and a Lakin kill built an early 2-1 lead for Maryville. The Hawks reeled off six straight points to surge ahead. Schellert's kill broke the run and a Maggie Murphy ace drew the Saints to 7-4. QU tallied four consecutive to glide to an 11-4 advantage before a block combo by Lakin and Selman. The Hawks used another 6-0 run to ease to the win.
