In the program's second game, the Maryville lacrosse team accepted a challenge by taking on the No. 4 team in the country, the University of Tampa and ended up taking a 16-2 defeat. The visiting Spartans carried the play in the opening quarter with seven goals and kept the advantage in the first half. The Saints finally broke through with one goal in both the third and fourth quarters.

Maryville hadn't scored until
Zach Steltzer tallied for the second straight game. On a man up situation with 2:54 left in the third quarter, he took a pass from
Jacob Campbell and launched a shot into the left side of the cage to get the Saints on the scoreboard. In the fourth quarter,
Tristan Snellgrove tallied his first goal at the 9:03 mark as Maryville doubled its scoring output.

William DeVinney came up with 16 saves on the day for the Saints as he exceeded his save total from the opener by one.
James Alexander picked up four ground balls for Maryville. Andrew Kew, Tampa's leading scorer, finished with five goals in the contest as the Spartans improved to 3-1 on the year.

The Saints slip to 0-2 on the season. Maryville is next in action Saturday, Feb. 25, as it faces Colorado-Mesa in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener played in Kansas City.
