Normandy, Mo. - The Maryville men's basketball squad closed out the 2016-17 season at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the Tritons dealt the Saints a 68-48 defeat at the Mark Twain Building Thursday evening.

The Tritons scored the first five points of the game until senior
Anthony Johnson scored on a layup to get the Saint on the scoreboard.
Grant Sims knocked down a jumper to cut the UMSL lead down to 10-4. The margin stood at 15-8 after
Evan Booker powered up for a bucket in traffic. The Tritons tallied seven straight until
Ben Volkman converted a layup. Maryville was still down 26-12 before
Forrester Sims splashed in a 3-pointer and followed with a hoop in traffic to cut the deficit to 26-17 with 5:28 left in the first half. UMSL used a 16-2 run to close the half before Johnson sank a long trey at the buzzer to pull the Saints to 42-21.

Early in the second half, the Saints knocked down three straight 3-pointers during an 11-1 run to chop the UMSL cushion down to 46-34 with 14:06 left to play. The Tritons were back up by 17 before a
Jeff Leeson hoop and Johnson 3-pointer from the corner pulled the Saints back to 51-39 with nine minutes remaining. However, UMSL sealed the victory with a 10-0 run to deny the Saints.

Forrester Sims led the Saints with 14 points, while Johnson added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Steven Davis led the Tritons with 12 points as UMSL improved to 11-17 overall, 5-13 in the GLVC. The Saints finish the season with a record of 9-21 overall, 3-15 in the GLVC.
