Maryville lacrosse was playing in its second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game, and
James Alexander recorded the first hat trick in program history but Colorado-Mesa used a big third quarter and posted a 26-4 victory Sunday in a tilt played at Adams State University.

The Saints fell behind 3-0 before Alexander scored his first goal of the season at the 9:44 mark off a feed from
Brenden Symons. The Mavericks built a 7-1 cushion after one quarter but Maryville pulled one back.
Justin Amling found the back of the net to trim the deficit to 7-2 four minutes into the second. The Saints were a man down late but Alexander tallied his second score of the game 20 seconds before halftime to pull Maryville to within 9-3. In the third quarter, the Mavericks did not give up a goal to the Saints and eventually took a 19-3 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play. Alexander completed his hat trick when he recorded his third goal of the day with just over five minutes left in the game.

The Saints are 0-5 overall, 0-2 in the RMAC. Colorado-Mesa improves to 6-2 overall, 3-1 in the conference. Maryville says in Alamosa, Colo., and faces Adams State Wednesday, March 15.
