Brenden Symons' hat trick, the Maryville lacrosse team recorded a season-high five goals in a defeat to Westminster (Utah) College. The visiting Griffins took control with five straight goals and posted a 16-5 win over the Saints Sunday afternoon.

Westminster took the lead just over a minute into the game before Symons tallied his first goal at the 11:05 mark. The Griffins then reeled off five unanswered scores to surge ahead. The Saints responded with back-to-back tallies. Symons fired in a goal at the 8:45 mark of the second period.
Richard Cato Jr., then notched his third score of the season off a feed from Symons as the Saints closed the gap to 6-3 at the 2:16 mark of the second quarter. Westminster added two goals to take an 8-3 lead at halftime.

The Griffins added four goals in the third while keeping the Saints off the scoreboard to push their advantage to 12-3. In the fourth quarter, Symons completed his hat trick as he found the back of the net with 11:26 to play.
Jacob Campbell added to the Saints scoring bounty with his second goal of the season with just over nine minutes remaining in the game.

William DeVinney came up with 12 saves in the contest for the Saints (0-7 overall, 0-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference). Nick Marcy led Westminster with two goals and four assists on the day as the Griffins up their mark to 3-2, 3-0 in the RMAC.

Maryville is back in action Friday, March 24, as it hosts Colorado State-Pueblo for a 1 p.m. match.
