Lacrosse Scores Four Goals at Adams State for Second Straight Outing

Alamosa, Colo. - The Maryville lacrosse team had a strong defensive effort as the Saints battled against host Adams State but the Grizzlies notched a 10-4 win in Alamosa, Colo., Wednesday afternoon. The Saints tied their season best output with four goals.

The Saints roared out of the blocks and took their first lead when Justin Amling scored just 1:44 into the contest. Maryville held its lead for more than three minutes until Adams State drew level at the 10-minute mark. The Grizzlies tacked on two more scores to inch ahead 3-1 after one quarter.

Amling scored another quick goal when he found the back of the net 30 seconds in as the Saints trimmed their deficit to 3-2. Adams State stretched its lead back out to 5-2. Brett Harris nearly pulled another score back for the Saints but his shot hit the post. However, Jacob Campbell registered his first goal with 3:41 left in the second to trim the Maryville deficit to 5-3. The Grizzlies scored late in the period to take a 6-3 cushion at intermission.

The Saints were unable to dent the Adams State defense in the third quarter but the Grizzilies chipped in three more goals to stretch their margin. The teams traded goals in the fourth quarter as Zach Steltzer tallied his third goal of the season in the last minute for the final score.

The Saints had 23 ground balls on the day, their second highest total of the season, and won a season-best eight faceoffs. Kale Wilson and Collin Cranfield led ASU with four goals apiece.

The Saints slip to 0-6 on the season overall, 0-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Adams State is 2-1 overall and in the RMAC. Maryville is back at home Sunday, March 19, as it hosts Westminster (Utah) College in an 11 a.m. start.
