St. Louis – The Maryville University women's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit as Concordia University defeated the Saints 4-2 in the 2017 opener in St. Paul, Minn. Friday night. 
 
What Happened – Concordia opened the scoring in the 19
th minute to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Saints battled back in the 27
th minute as 
Kaley Ruff headed a corner kick from 
Allison Verville into the back of the net to briefly tie the match at 1-1. The Golden Bears took control of the match by scoring a goal 55 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead and then they extended the lead in the 41
st minute to 3-1. 
Amanda Kaltwasser stuck for the Saints in the 44
th minute off a centering pass from Verville to cut the deficit to 3-2 as the half ended. Concordia added an insurance goal in the 58
th minute to extend the lead to 4-2.
 
Up Next – Maryville continues their trip to Minnesota on Sunday, Sept. 3, as the Saints take on the University of Minnesota – Crookston. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
