Allison Verville had an assist and scored the game winner as the Maryville University women's soccer team needed to work overtime for the third time in seven days to defeat Southern Indiana 2-1 in double overtime at Maryville Field Sunday afternoon.
What Happened – Alex Johnson scored her second goal of the year and broke a scoreless tie in the 75
th minute as she found the back of the net off a pass from Verville to gain a 1-0 lead. The Screaming Eagles forced overtime with a goal in the 82
nd minute and that set up the exciting finish in the second overtime. Verville scored her first goal of the year as she drilled a free kick into the top right corner of the goal in the 103
rd minute to give the Saints a hard fought victory.
Inside the Numbers - Alison Riddle was credited with eight saves on 13 shots in the win.
Up Next – Maryville travels north to Kenosha, Wis., to take on GLVC rival Wisconsin-Parkside Friday, Sept. 15. The match is set to start at noon.
