Alex Johnson scored her team leading third goal of the year to push the Maryville University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over the University of Illinois-Springfield Friday afternoon at Maryville field.
What Happened – After a scoreless first half of action, the Prairie Stars opened the scoring in the 54
th minute to grab a 1-0 advantage. Maryville answered right back a minute later as
Ashley Pogue took a cross from
Allison Verville and found the net as the Saints knotted the match at 1-1. Johnson scored her first game winner of the year in the 67th minute as she directed a rebound off the UIS keeper to the upper right corner of the goal to stake the Saints to a 2-1 lead.
Inside the Numbers – Verville picked up her fifth assist on the season while
Alison Riddle earned six saves in the match.
How they stand – Maryville improves to 4-2-1 and 3-1-1 in the Great Lake Valley Conference while the Prairie Stars fell to 5-2-2 and 2-2-1 in the GLVC.
