Sohn propels Saints to a 1-0 win over Truman State

Box Score Kirksville, Mo. – JD Sohn scored with just over 15 minutes remaining in the match to propel the Maryville University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Truman State at Bulldog Soccer Park in Kirksville, Mo., Friday afternoon.
 
What Happened – The two clubs played to even terms after the first 45 minutes, but Maryville turned up the offensive pressure in the second stanza. The Saints outshot the Bulldogs 5-0 in the first 29 minutes of the second half before Sohn placed a ball off a redirection past the Bulldogs keeper to stake Maryville to a 1-0 advantage.
 
Inside the Numbers – Sohn's goal in the second half was his third goal of the year and his second game winner this season. Christian Kjaersgaard knocked away four shots on the afternoon to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
 
How they stand – Maryville improved to 7-2-0 and 5-2-0 in the Great Lake Valley Conference while the Bulldogs fell to 2-8-0 and 1-6-0 in the GLVC. This is the best start for the Saints since the 1994 team opened the year with an 8-2 mark.
 
Up Next – Maryville continues its brief two-game road trip Sunday, Oct. 1, as the Saints travel to Liberty, Mo., to take on William Jewell. The match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
