Alex Johnson scored a goal midway through the second half and
Alison Riddle came away with a huge save in the closing minutes of overtime as the Maryville University women's soccer team battled the seventh-ranked Bellarmine Knights to a 1-1 draw Friday evening at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Knights (1-0-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) opened the scoring with a goal off a deflection in the 42
nd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room. The Saints (1-1-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) started to put pressure on the Bellarmine defense and scored the equalizer in the 60
th minute. Johnson found the back of the net from eight yards out off a helper from
Casey Gonzales to tie the score at 1-1. Riddle came away with the biggest play of the game in the 108
th minute as she stopped a Knights' breakaway to preserve the draw. She finished the match with five saves on six Bellarmine shots.
Up Next – Maryville concludes its brief two-match homestand as the Saints play host to Southern Indiana Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field. The match is set to start at noon.
