Saints earn a 1-1 draw with #7 Bellarmine

St. Louis – Alex Johnson scored a goal midway through the second half and Alison Riddle came away with a huge save in the closing minutes of overtime as the Maryville University women's soccer team battled the seventh-ranked Bellarmine Knights to a 1-1 draw Friday evening at Maryville Field.

What Happened – The Knights (1-0-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) opened the scoring with a goal off a deflection in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room. The Saints (1-1-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) started to put pressure on the Bellarmine defense and scored the equalizer in the 60th minute. Johnson found the back of the net from eight yards out off a helper from Casey Gonzales to tie the score at 1-1. Riddle came away with the biggest play of the game in the 108th minute as she stopped a Knights' breakaway to preserve the draw. She finished the match with five saves on six Bellarmine shots.
