What Happened
The Maryville volleyball team opened day one of action at the TownPlace Suites Invitational in Joplin, Mo., by falling short in its first two matches. Ouachita Baptist edged the Saints 25-21, 25-14, 26-24, while host Missouri Southern slid past Maryville 25-16, 25-12, 25-14.

Despite nine kills from
Ashley Selman and
Cassidy Arndt, the Saints were unable to overcome Ouachita Baptist. Maryville made a charge late in set three and saved two match points before OBU scored two straight to close out the match. The Saints had more blocks and more service aces but could not claim their first victory of the season.
Maggie Murphy had a season-high 21 digs for Maryville. Against Missouri Southern, the Lions hit .430 to down the Saints.
Allison Lakin and Arndt recorded eight kills apiece.
