Summary
Quincy's Michaela Gronewold scored at the buzzer as the Maryville women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker 75-73 Monday night at Moloney Arena. The loss spoiled the double-double effort by Stephanie Sherwood who finished with game highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds, including seven board on the offensive end.
 
What Happened
Quincy hit 11 of 17 shots in the first quarter and raced out to an early 26-18 lead. The Saints cut the deficit to 43-40 at halftime. Down 44-40, Sherwood hit a 3-pointer, and Ali Ringering's layup staked the Saints to a 45-44 edge. The score was deadlocked at 48-48 before the Saints went on a 12-4 run to jump ahead. Sherwood sank a triple and two Mary Barton free throws were good for a 60-52 lead. Ellen Foster converted two free throws as the Saints took a 64-55 edge into the fourth.
 
Maryville took its biggest lead of the game when Barton nailed a jumper for a 66-55 lead. The Hawks chipped away at the deficit but the Saints still led 73-65 with four minutes to play on a Jordyne Dugger wing jumper. However, Maryville would be held scoreless as the Hawks mounted the furious rally.
