The Maryville wrestling team faced two nationally ranked Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents Friday and came out on the short end of the two decisions in Lebanon, Ill. The Saints dropped a 24-15 contest versus No. 3 Wisconsin-Parkside and lost a 39-3 decision to host No. 6 McKendree. James Krischke posted two wins on the day to pace the Maryville efforts.
Against the Rangers, Kolby Smith picked up a forfeit win at 125, while Krischke notched a 1-0 decision to win at 149. Nick McGhee garnered an 8-6 win in SV-1 to take his match at 165. Bailey Kelly rolled to a 9-4 win at 184 but that would be the last Maryville triumph.
McKendree grabbed the first three wins before Krischke won his match 6-4 via TB-2. However the Bearcats took two more narrow decisions to close out the win as the Saints had two forfeit two matches down the stretch.
The Saints are next in action at the Greyhound Open Sunday, Jan. 28, and Maryville is back at home hosting Indianapolis Saturday, Feb. 3.
