Ohio Dominican recap
In its first match at the 2018 Midwest Crossover Tournament, Maryville volleyball rallied to force a fifth set but was edged 21-19 as Ohio Dominican claimed a 3-2 victory. ODU took the first two sets 25-23, 25-18. The Saints deadlocked the match with wins of scores of 25-20, 26-24 before ODU took the final set. Maryville tied the record for most kills in a match in the Division II era with 71 kills.
What Happened
After hitting less than .250 in the first two sets, the Saints blazed to a .405 hitting percentage in the third set with 17 kills on 37 attempts and just two errors. Maryville was nearly as good in the fourth set, recording 15 kills and only one miscue taking 37 swings to force the decisive fifth set.

The Saints were down 7-5 before scoring three straight to grab the lead at 8-7. The teams traded the lead before the match was tied at 11-11.
Allison Lakin put the Saints ahead with a kill, and
Liz Eardly served an ace. Lakin pounded down another kill to get Maryville to match point. However, ODU tied the set at 14-all. The Saints went back up after another Lakin kill.
Cassidy Arndt gave Maryville its last lead of the match at 19-18. ODU took a 19-18 lead but
Faith Ahlhardt tied the set at 19-19. However, the Panthers scored the final two points of the match to hand the Saints a heartbreaking defeat.

The 71 kills tied the Division II era for kills in a match, first set against Oakland City during the 2014 season, and are the sixth most in a match in program history.
In addition to

Faith Ahlhardt and
Cassidy Arndt both reached double figures with 15 kills.
Kayla Buxton notched a double-double with a career-high 39 assists and 16 digs.
Arndt had 15 kills and 20 digs.
A.J. Hallemann's 28 digs are the most by a Maryville player this season.
