Crossover Tournament Day Two Recap
The Maryville volleyball team closed out the 2018 Midwest Crossover Tournament on a high note as the Saints defeated Ursuline 3-1. Set scores were 26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 28-26. In the first match of the day, the Saints won an epic set three but lost a four-set match against Northwood. The Timberwolves prevailed by set scores of 25-11, 25-15, 30-32, 25-17.

What Happened vs Ursuline
A day after tying the record for kills in the Division II era, the Saints nearly duplicated the feat with 70 kills against the Arrows.
Allison Lakin pounded out a career-high 27 kills and completed a double-double with 17 digs to pace the attack.
Cassidy Arndt had a double-double with 17 kills and 14 digs, while
Taylor Schellert added 12 kills.

The Saints posted a .304 hitting percentage to take the first set until Ursuline answered by hitting .324 to even the match. Late in the third set, the Saints trailed 18-17 before Arndt put down a kill. After a UC error,
Liz Eardly finished a pass from
Kayla Buxton for a 20-18 lead. Ursuline answered and went up 22-21 before the Saints responded.
Faith Ahlhardt and Lakin had back-to-back kills, and a UC miscue pushed the Saints to set point. Lakin drilled a kill for the 2-1 lead in sets.

The fourth and final set was close the entire way and was deadlocked at 22-22. The teams traded points before Ursuline went up 26-25. Lakin launched a kill, and Buxton tipped in a crosscourt shot to get Maryville to match point. Eardly served up a ball that Ursuline could not handle to close out the match.

What Happened vs Northwood
The Saints fell behind 2-0 before winning a thrilling set three. Maryville trailed most of the set but scored seven of eight points to grab a 17-13 edge. Northwood tied the contest at 18-18. Neither team tallied consecutive points until Northwood went up 25-24 for match point. After a Timberwolves error,
Allison Lakin pounded down a kill.
Taylor Schellert and
Cassidy Arndt saved back-to-back match points as the score was tied at 29-all. Northwood again had a match point but had a hitting error.
Liz Eardly had a kill to give the Saints set point, and Schellert ended the marathon match at 32-30. The Saints fell behind 4-0 to start set four and tried to rally. Maryville later scored four straight and another 3-0 run pulled the Saints to 14-12. The Saints were unable to trim the deficit to one as Northwood held on for the win.
