Allison Lakin smashed down 17 kills and hit .389 but the Maryville volleyball team could not extend its winning streak to three as Missouri-St. Louis beat the Saints in three sets. Set scores were 25-19, 25-16, 25-21.
What Happened
Trailing 2-1, the Saints reeled off six straight points to grab the lead. After an UMSL error,
Faith Ahlhardt notched a solo block and a kill. Lakin had a kill between two Triton miscues as the Saints went up 7-2. A kill by Lakin and a
Liz Eardly ace built a 9-3 edge. Maryville still led 18-16 until UMSL used a 5-0 run to take the lead and the first set.
Mikaela Kues tipped in a kill to tie set two at 5-5. The score was still deadlocked at 6-6 before UMSL scored four straight to take the edge. Maryville got as close at 16-13 after a Lakin kill and UMSL error but the Tritons held on. UMSL took the early lead before the Saints rallied. UMSL had a hitting error and an Ahlhardt kill pushed the Saints up 6-5. Back-to-back kills by Lakin were good for an 8-6 advantage. A kill by Arndt provided a 12-11 lead until the Tritons retook the lead. Maryville got as close as 20-19 after an Arndt kill but UMSL closed out the match to end the Saints' winning streak.
