Romeoville, Ill. – After a scoreless battle in regulation,
Mariah Loya scored six minutes into the first overtime session to propel the Maryville women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Lewis Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium in Romeoville, Ill.
What Happened – The two teams battled on even terms for the first 90 minutes of the match. The Flyers had many opportunities to score in the second half, but
Elyse Waterhouse and the Maryville defensive back line held their ground and did not allow a goal. Loya gave the Saints the win in the 96
th minute as she collected a pass from
Allison Verville and scored from the top of the 18-yard box. This is the second game-winner for Loya this season.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints were outshot by Lewis 10-5 with each team putting three shots on frame. The goal for Loya was her third of the year while the assist for Verville was her team-high seventh. Waterhouse earned her third straight clean sheet with three saves on the afternoon.
