Alex Johnson scored early in the second half to propel the Maryville women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Indianapolis Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – After a scoreless first half which saw Maryville out shoot the Greyhounds 7-2, Johnson gave the Saints the lead in the 50
th minute. Johnson took a crossing pass from
Allison Verville and found the back of the net from 11-yards out on the right side to give Maryville a 1-0 advantage. That is all the Saints needed as
Alison Riddle was credited with six saves while earning her third win of the season.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints have only surrendered up two goals in the first half thus far this season. The goal for Johnson was her team-high fourth of the year. The helper for Verville was her team leading fifth of the season.
