St. Louis – The Maryville men's soccer team scored goals in the late stages of each half to defeat the University of Missouri-St. Louis 2-0 Monday afternoon at Maryville Field. The win extended the Saints winning streak to six games and it is the longest streak since 1998.
What Happened – After the game started in a defensive battle,
Grady Schliepsiek put a deflection into the back of the net from 5-yards out in the 39
th minute to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Helmut Florencia extended the lead to 2-0 in the 85
th minute as he placed a header off a corner kick from
Dom Riggio into the upper right corner of the goal. The Maryville defense controlled the pace of the game in the second half as they allowed only two shots.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints held an 11-5 advantage in shots with Maryville putting five shots on goal. The goal for Florencia was his team-high fifth of the season.
Christian Kjaersgaard was credited with three saves on the afternoon in earning his fifth clean sheet of the year. The Saints have given up only three goals during the six-game winning streak.
