In the first game of the Daytona Beach Shootout, the Maryville women's basketball team was edged 48-47 by 2018 Elite Eight participant Montana State-Billings. The Yellowjackets' Vanessa Stavish scored the game-winning basket with three seconds left. Erin Lenahan tallied 14 points, her second highest output of the season, to lead the Saints.
 
What Happened
After the Yellowjackets scored the first points of the game, the Saints answered with eight straight. UU Longs made a free throw, and Lenahan knocked down a jumper and scored on a layup. Mary Barton drilled a 3-pointer for an 8-2 lead. MSUB closed to 8-6 at the end of the first but the Saints stretched the margin to 13-6 after jumper by Abby Monis and a three-point play by Stephanie Sherwood. The Yellowjackets took their first lead at 18-17 but two free throws by Kayla Steward gave the Saints a 19-18 lead at the break.
 
The Saints had a one-point lead before Longs hit a jumper and Taylor Kirby san one free throw for a 35-31 edge. Lenahan scored for a six-point advantage. MSUB closed to 37-35 before Lenahan answered and Steward followed with a bucket and a 41-35 margin with 7:20 left. Lenahan converted again as the Saints took their biggest lead of the game 43-35 with six minutes to play. The Yellowjackets scored nine straight to take a 44-43 lead before Barton answered for the Saints with 1:59 to play. Lenahan converted again for a 47-44 margin. MSUB cut the Maryville lead to just one. The Saints missed on their next possession but forced a turnover to get the ball back with 32 seconds to play. The Yellowjackets missed a shot in the final seconds but grabbed the offensive rebound for the putback and the win.
