Women's Basketball Overwhelms Urbana 99-52

To close the Daytona Beach Shootout, the Maryville women's basketball team blitzed Urbana 99-52. The Saints began the contest with a 15-2 burst to take control and cruised to the victory. The 99 points scored were the most since Dec. 1, 2013, when the Saints set a school record with 113.
 
What Happened
Kayla Steward scored the first basket of the game, and Stephanie Sherwood drilled a 3-pointer. After the Urbana scored, the Saints tallied the next 10 points. Steward hit a jumper, and Abby Monis sank two free throws. Jayda Jansen splashed a triple, and Erin Lenahan's three-point play built a 15-2 lead before the Blue Knights finally scored again. The Maryville defense kept Urbana without a point for nearly five minutes and the margin grew to 26-4. The Saints led 28-7 after the opening 10 minutes.
 
The Saints tallied the first 12 points of the second quarter to stretch the lead to 40-8 at the 7:36 mark. Maryville's defense did not allow a field goal until 5:01 was left in the quarter and were up 47-9. The Saints stretched their advantage to 57-20 at halftime. Maryville shot 52.6 percent while limiting Urbana to 25.8 percent from the field. The Saints pushed the advantage to as much as 42 points and took a 74-36 lead into the final quarter. Maryville shot 53 percent from the field and limited Urbana to just 31.8 percent.
