St. Louis –
Ben Lovell threw a two-hit gem in the second game of the day to propel the Maryville baseball team to a sweep of Bemidji State Saturday afternoon at Weber Field.
Alec Harris earned his third win of the year as the Saints won the opener 7-5 while Lovell threw a complete game in the nightcap as Maryville won 3-2.
Game One:
The Saints got things going in the home half of the first inning as
Dalton Schumer drew a walk and scored on a
Garrett Taylor double into the gap in left center to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. After a walk and a single to load the bases,
Zack Ruckman drove in a pair of runs on a fielding error to extend the early lead to 3-0. The Saints continued the uprising in the first as
Matt Scheibel drilled a double to left field to score two more runs that gave Maryville a 6-0 advantage. The Beavers plated a run in the third inning to cut the lead to 6-1 and made it a game by putting up four runs in the top of the eighth as the Saints held on to a 5-4 lead. Maryville added an insurance run in the eighth as
Cody Klotz singled to left to drive in
Tyler Catlett from second as the Saints extended the lead to 7-5.

Game Two:
The Beavers cracked the scoreboard first in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly that drove in a run to give Bemidji State a 1-0 lead. Maryville tied the game in the home half of the inning as
Camdon Mercier drilled an RBI single to left center to score Schumer, who walked, to knot the game at 1-1. The Saints took the lead for good as Niemerg opened the second inning with a single and after a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a
Cody Klotz single. Niemerg scored on a
Drake Lubin sac fly to center to take a 2-1 advantage. Maryville added a run in the sixth inning as
Brennan Williams scored on another sacrifice to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.
