St. Louis –
Dalton Schumer ripped a pair of home runs in the nightcap to aid the Maryville baseball team to a split with Bemidji State Monday afternoon at Weber Field. The Saints dropped the first game of the day by a score of 13-5. Maryville bounced back in the second contest by pounded out 15 hits as the Saints defeated the Beavers 16-2.
Game One:
The Beavers opened the game by sending eight batters to the plate en route to an early 4-0 lead. Bemidji State added seven runs on six hits in the top of the third to extend their lead to 11-0. The Saints cracked the scoreboard in the fifth inning
Louis Niemerg drilled a single to center field and scored on n RBI single by
Daniel Covert to cut the lead to 11-1. Maryville continued to chip into the lead in the sixth as Niemerg and Covert each drove in runs to cut the deficit to 11-3. After the Beavers tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 13-3, Maryville scored two runs in the home half of the seventh as
Brennan Williams and
Camdon Mercier each connected for singles to make to score 13-5

Game Two:
The Saints struck first in the opening inning as
Domonic Connolly drew a free pass and moved to second on a
Drake Lubin bunt single. Connolly scored as Williams hit into a fielder's choice to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. Connolly struck again in the second with a two-run double to center field to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. Maryville continued the offensive fireworks in the second as Williams hit a sacrifice fly to score Connolly and then Niemerg drilled a double to score another run to extend the lead to 5-0. The Saints bats remained hot in the third inning as Lubin ripped a double of the center field wall to drive in two runs as it gave Maryville a 7-0 advantage. The Beavers cut into to Saints lead with two runs in the top of the fourth to put the score at 7-2, but the Saints answered right back. Covert hit an RBI single and
Tyler Catlett pushed across a pair of runs with a double to increase the lead to 10-2. Schumer added another run in the fifth with his team-high fifth home run of the year to give Maryville an 11-2 lead. Maryville plated five more runs in the sixth inning as Lubin drove in three runs with a double and Schumer smashed his second homer of the game to give the Saints a 16-2 lead.
