Summary
The Maryville men's lacrosse team nearly mounted the biggest comeback in the program's history as the Saints scored six straight goals but were edged late 9-8 at CSU-Pueblo Monday night.
What Happened
CSU-Pueblo opened the game by scoring the first five goals of the game. Jai Benson broke through with the first Maryville goal. Jack Kilibarda tallied the second goal just 37 seconds later as the Saints pulled to within 5-2. However, the Thunderwolves answered with three straight. Ty Wenck scored with 29 seconds left in the half as the Saints were down 8-2 at intermission.
Tristan Snellgrove opened the scoring in the third quarter, and Justin Amling gave the Saints a boost with a man-down goal. Still trailing 8-5, the Saints kept the momentum up as Kilibarda fired in his second goal of the night. Snellgrove potted his team-leading 16 goal of the season with 10:52 to play. Just 30 seconds later, Amling brought the Saints level as he scored to deadlock the game 8-8. However, CSU-Pueblo took advantage of a Maryville penalty and scored the game winner at the 5:59 mark. The Saints had two shots saved in the final minute as the Thunderwolves held on for the win.
