Rolla, Mo. – The Maryville baseball team used a pair of home runs in the nightcap to earn a split with Missouri S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday afternoon at S&T Ball Park. The Saints fell in the first game of the day, 3-2 and battled back in the second game to defeat the Miners, 5-0 to win the weekend series 3-1.
Game one:
Missouri S&T cracked the scoreboard first with a run in the home half of the third to take a 1-0 lead, but the Saints answered in the top of the fourth as
Zack Ruckman drew a two-out walk and moved up to third on a throwing error.
Camdon Mercier drove in Ruckman with an infield single to tie the game at 1-1. Maryville grabbed the lead in the top of the fifth as
Drake Lubin opened the frame with a double down the left line and scored on a
Louis Niemerg single to take a 2-1 advantage. The Miners answered back in the bottom of the fifth with a run to tie the game at 2-2. The score remained that way until Missouri S&T scored in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off single to win 3-2.

Game two:
Dalton Schumer got the Saints going in the first inning as he drove in Niemerg, who singled with two outs in the frame, with a double to left field to stake Maryville to a 1-0 lead. Mercier extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth with his second home run of the year over the left field wall. The Saints took advantage of a pair of walks in the seventh as Schumer drilled a three-run blast to give Maryville a 5-0 lead. The home run was Schumer's third of the weekend.
