Ozark, Mo. – The Maryville University baseball team battled back in the first game of the day and then saw a rally fall short in the nightcap as the Saints earned a split with Drury University Saturday afternoon at US Baseball Park. Maryville scored three runs in the seventh inning of the opener to secure a 4-2 win in the first game of the day and then saw the Panthers score four runs over the last two innings to take a 6-3 win over the Saints in the last game of the day.
Game One:
The Panthers grabbed the early lead with runs in the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Saints broke through in the fifth as
Dalton Schumer singled to centerfield to score
Drake Lubin and cut the deficit to 2-1. Maryville took the lead in the top of the seventh as Lubin and
Cody Klotz each scored on wild pitches and
Louis Niemerg hit an RBI single to give Maryville a 4-2 lead. The Saints bullpen did an outstanding job as the Panthers were held to only two hits over the last four innings of play.

Game Two:
Drury once again raced out to an early 2-0 advantage after three innings of play, but the Saints answered in the top of the fourth frame. Schumer opened the inning with a double and scored as
Connor Markell singled to center field to cut the Panther lead to 2-1. Maryville took the lead moments later as Klotz smacked a two-run triple to the gap in right center field to give the Saints the lead at 3-2. Drury regained the lead in the fifth with a pair of runs and added two more insurance runs in the sixth stanza to earn the victory.
