Alec Harris set the new single season win mark to as the Maryville University baseball team earned a split with Truman State in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. The Bulldogs claimed a 3-2 victory in the series opener while the Saints smacked 14 hits in an 8-3 win in the nightcap.
Game One:
The Saints broke out on top in the first inning as
Drake Lubin and
Brennan Williams started the frame with back-to-back singles. After a fielder's choice moved Lubin to third,
Dalton Schumer drove him home with another single to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of Saints miscues to draw even with Maryville at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Truman State took the lead for the first time on the day in the seventh with two runs to stake them to a 3-1 advantage. Maryville cut into the Bulldog lead in the home half of the seventh as Lubin hit a two out single and scored as Williams drilled a double down the right field line to make the score 3-2. The Saints left five runners stranded on the base paths over the last two innings as Truman State took the first game of the series.

Game Two:
Truman State pushed across a run in the top of the first to grab an early 1-0 lead, but the Saints answered back in the home half of the inning. Lubin and Williams again opened the stanza with singles and scored as Schumer ripped a double into the gap in right center to push the runners across and give Maryville a 2-1 advantage. The first inning outburst continued as
Connor Markell lifted an RBI single to right field to score Schumer as it put the Saints out in front 3-1. After the Bulldogs tallied two runs in the second to tie the contest at 3-3, Maryville was able to re-take the lead in the home half of the second as Niemerg lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Lubin, who singled earlier in the frame, as it gave the Saints a 4-3 lead.
Daniel Covert added to the Saints lead in the third with an RBI double into right field that extended the Maryville lead to 5-3. Williams broke the game open in the fourth as he drilled a two-run blast over the right center field wall to give Maryville a 7-3 lead. The Saints added an insurance run in the fifth stanza to take an 8-3 advantage as Harris threw five innings of three hit baseball to earn his sixth win of the year to set the new single season mark in the Division II era. The previous mark of five wins was held by AJ Dean and Eric Keling.
