St. Louis – The Maryville University baseball team received a pair of outstanding pitching performances and smacked 22 hits as the Saints earned a sweep of Great Lakes Valley Conference foe, Truman State Sunday afternoon. The Saints took the first game of the day 10-3 and pounded out 14 hits in an 11-4 victory in the nightcap at Weber Field.
Game One:
After the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning,
Drake Lubin reached base on a throwing error and was driven home by a
Brennan Williams sacrifice fly to tie the contest at 1-1.
Dalton Schumer kept the inning alive with a two-run blast to give Maryville a 3-1 advantage. The homer was Schumer's 12
th of the season, which sets a new single season mark in the Division II era. The Saints offense continued to roll in the second as
Cody Klotz ripped a triple to right center and scored on a Lubin single to left field to extend the lead to 4-1. Lubin then scored on a wild pitch to give the Saints a 5-1 lead after two innings of play. Maryville put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the sixth inning as the Saints drilled four hits and took advantage of two Bulldog miscues to score five runs and extend the lead to 10-1. The Bulldogs plated a pair of runs in the seventh before
Louis Niemerg slammed the door shut to earn the complete game victory.

Game Two:
The Bulldogs once again scored a run in the first to grab an early 1-0 lead as the score remained that way until the home half of the fifth.
Domonic Connolly jumped started the Saints with a one-out double and moved to third on a
Matt Scheibel single. Connolly scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 1-1. Maryville then turned to the long ball as
Daniel Covert and Williams each hit two-run homers and Niemerg drilled a solo blast to give the Saints a 6-1 advantage. The Saints added two runs in the sixth on a Scheibel double to extend the lead to 8-1. Truman State pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 8-4, but the Saints returned the favor in the bottom of the inning. Maryville put up another crooked number in the bottom of the frame as Covert ripped his second homer of the game and Niemerg drove in another run to give the Saints an 11-4 lead.
Arcentae Stone tossed seven innings of four hit baseball with six strikeouts to earn his second win of the year.
