Volleyball Saints Sweep Trevecca Nazarene for Fourth Win of Season

Day two of KWC Tournament
On the final day of the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament, the Maryville volleyball team picked up a sweep over Trevecca Nazarene to post its fourth victory of the season. The Saints have already surpassed their win total from last season. Maryville downed TNU 25-20, 25-12, 25-23. The Saints were tripped up by Brescia 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 25-19) in the first match Saturday.
 
Trevecca Nazarene Recap
The Saints held the Trojans to a .000 hitting percentage to pick up their fourth win of the season. Mikaela Kues served the Saints to seven straight points as the Saints turned a 5-1 deficit into an 8-5 advantage. The set was tied at 15-15 but a kill by Olivia Thomas and an ace by Mikaela Kues rebuilt a lead the Saints kept the rest of the way. In set two, the Saints were down 18-15 but scored four straight to jump ahead 19-18. TNU retook the lead at 23-22 before the Saints scored three-in-a-row for the win. Cassidy Arndt's kill tied the contest. Kayla Nystedt served the final two points to complete the sweep.

Brescia Recap
The Saints fought back to forge a tie at 22-22 in the opening set before Brescia tallied three straight to take the lead. Set two was close until Brescia went on a 6-0 run to grab the first two sets. The third set was close and Maryville trailed 24-23 facing match point. A block tied the score and a service ace pushed the Saints ahead by one. Maryville forced Brescia into a hitting error as the Saints pulled to within 2-1. However, the Saints were unable to force a fifth set as the Bearcats prevailed.
