St. Louis – The Maryville University men's soccer team battled Bellarmine to a 2-2 draw on a hot and steamy Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – Pontus Gitselov got the Saints going in the 18
th minute as he scored his fourth goal of the year from 10-yards out on the left side to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The Knights evened the match in the 32
nd minute with a goal from 4-yards out.
Diego Coy gave the Saints the lead again in the 49
th minute with a strike off a free kick from 22-yards out to put the score at 2-1. Bellarmine drew the game even 45 seconds later on an own goal by the Saints. The game turned into a defensive battle as neither team could put in the winning goal despite the Knights having a 4-0 advantage in shots over the extra sessions.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints were out 11-9 by the Knights over the course of the match. Gitselov, Coy, and
Ricardo Andrade had two shot each to pace Maryville.
