St. Louis – Despite holding an advantage in shots for the match, the Maryville University women's soccer team played Bellarmine to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The first half was a defensive battle as the two teams played to a scoreless tie. The Saints held a 5-1 advantage in shots in the half.
Stacie Muehling gave Maryville the lead in the 52
nd minute as she took a pass from
Allison Verville and slotted it into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. The Knights evened the match in the 65
th minute with a strike from 17-yards out. The game once again turned into a defensive struggle for the remainder of the game as each team was limited to one shot each in the extra sessions.
Inside the Numbers – Maryville outshot the Knights 13-6 in the contest and placed 11 shots on frame.
Alex Johnson paced the Saints with four shots with all of them being on goal. The assist for Verville was her third of the season.
