Springfield, Mo. – The Maryville women's soccer team scored early in each half and used great defense in the last part of the match to earn a 2-1 victory over Drury Friday morning at Harrison Stadium in Springfield, Mo.
What Happened – The Saints offense got things going early as
Amanda Kaltwasser found the back of the net off a rebound in the 12
th minute to give Maryville an early 1-0 advantage. The goal for Kaltwasser was her first of the year. The Saints held a 10-2 advantage in shots over the Panthers in the first half with five of those being on goal.
Kennedy Reeser extended the Saints lead in the 65
th minute as she collected a pass from
Madison Canoy on a 2-on-1 breakaway and found the empty net to give Maryville a 2-0 advantage. The Panthers answered four minutes later with a goal to cut the Saints lead to 2-1. The Saints defense continued to shine as they only allowed one shot over the final 20 minutes of the contest.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints outshot the Panthers 17-4 in the match with 11 of those shots being on frame.
Claudia King paced Maryville with five shots.
Alison Riddle garnered her first win of the year with one save.
