Liberty, Mo. – The Maryville women's soccer team's offense exploded for three second half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over William Jewell Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium in Liberty Mo.
What Happened – The Saints and Cardinals played to a 0-0 stalemate after the first 45 minutes of play with Maryville holding a 13-7 advantage in shots.
Stacie Muehling put the Saints on top in the 58
th minute with a free kick from 19-yards out on the left wing to give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
Kaley Ruff added an insurance goal seven minutes later as she took a rebound and slotted it to the lower left corner to stake the Saints to a 2-0 advantage.
Kristen Sparks extended the Maryville lead to 3-0 as she took a crossing pass from
Allison Verville and headed it home from 3-yards out in the 75
th minute. The Cardinals cracked the scoreboard 15 second later to cut the Maryville lead to 3-1.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints have not given up a goal in the first half of a match all season. Ruff's goal was her team-high third tally of the season. The Saints had a 22-18 advantage in shots with 11 of those being on frame.
Elyse Waterhouse earned her second win of the year with six saves.
