St. Louis – The Maryville women's soccer team battled back from a one goal deficit at halftime with a pair of goals in the second half to defeat Rockhurst 2-1 Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Hawks opened the scoring in the 20
th minute after scoring off a corner kick to take an early 1-0 advantage. The Saints answered in the early part of the second half as
Alex Johnson took a shot from the top of the box off a pass from
Claudia King that bounced off a defender and into the goal in the 57
th minute to even the game at 1-1.
Mariah Loya gave the Saints the lead in the 82
nd minute as she took a rebound off a shot from
Amanda Kaltwasser and found the back of the net to give Maryville a 2-1 lead.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints held a 14-10 advantage in shots with King, Johnson, and
Allison Verville each have three shots a piece. The goals for Loya and Johnson were their second goals of the season.
Alison Riddle collected five saves on the day en route to her second win of the season.
