Helmut Florencia scored a pair of goals in each half to pace the Maryville men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over William Jewell Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo.
What Happened – The Saints offense got things going early as
Ricardo Andrade took a free kick from Gavino Caranzza in the 9
th minute and put it in from 4-yards out to give Maryville an early 1-0 advantage. Florencia extended the lead in the 23
rd minute as he slotted a crossing pass from Andrade into the lower right-hand corner of the goal to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. Florencia tacked on another goal in the 83
rd minute as he headed in a corner kick from
Dom Riggio into the upper right corner of the goal to give Maryville a 3-0 lead.
Ben Brodie closed out the scoring by scoring on a penalty kick in the 89
th minute to extend the lead to 4-0.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints held a 25-10 advantage in shots over the Cardinals with eight shots being on frame. The two goals for Florencia tie him with
Pontus Gitselov for the team lead with four goals.
Christian Kjaersgaard earned his second clean sheet of the year and was credited with four saves.
