The Maryville women's basketball team ran its winning streak to four with a dominating 84-57 victory at Quincy Thursday night. The Saints rained down a season-high 14 pointers, tied for the fourth most in program history. Hunter Stidham reached her career high with 18 points and hit 7-of-8 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers. Kayla Steward finished with 16 points.
What Happened
The Saints used an early 8-0 run to grab control. Mary Barton drilled a 3-pointer to start the run and she added a jumper. Jayda Jansen had a three-point play to push Maryville up 10-4. After QU scored, Hunter Stidham splashed in consecutive triples for a 16-6 edge. The Saints took a 22-12 advantage after the first quarter.
The Hawks cut the deficit down to 22-19 before Maryville answered with a 15-2 burst. Taylor Kirby converted a layup, and UU Longs drained another 3-pointer. The Hawks scored a basket until the Saints reeled off 10 straight points, capped by an Abby Monis layup for a 37-21 lead with 3:51 left in the first half. The margin stood at 47-27 at halftime as Stidham tied her previous career high with 14 points.
The Saints stretched the cushion to as much as 25 after a Stephanie Sherwood 3-pointer for a 54-29 led with seven minutes to play in the third quarter. Maryville led 67-46 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final stanza, the Saints led by as many at 31 points while recording their third straight GLVC road win.
