The Maryville women's team was looking to win its sixth straight game but the University of Missouri-St. Louis rallied late for a 61-59 victory to snap the Saints winning streak. Maryville had not lost since Jan. 3 in a game against Southern Indiana.

What Happened
The Saints defense clamped down on UMSL as Maryville forced the Tritons to miss 15 of their first 16 shots as they roared out to a 20-4 lead. The tables turned in the second quarter as the Tritons outscored the Saints 16-8 to pull to within 28-20 by the break.

In the third quarter, the Saints pushed the lead back to double digits 34-24 after a
Taylor Kirby layup at the 6:41 mark. Maryville kept a narrow cushion and took its biggest lead of the second half when
Hunter Stidham nailed a 3-pointer for a 42-31 edge with 3:06 left in the third. Maryville took a 47-41 advantage heading to the final 10 minutes.

UMSL tied the game at 47-47 but
Stephanie Sherwood scored on a fastbreak to push the Saints back ahead 49-47. The Tritons scored five straight to take the lead. Maryville answered and tied the game after two free throws by
Kayla Steward. UMSL inched ahead twice but the Saints tied it both times. A bucket by Monis forged the final tie of the game at 59-59 with 1:36 left. Faye Meissner hit one free throw as the Tritons went up 60-59. The Saints missed a shot on their next possession but got a stop with 16 seconds to play. Maryville had the tying shot misfire with six seconds left but UMSL grabbed the rebound and made one free throw. The Saints had a shot at the buzzer to force overtime but the Tritons escaped with the win.
