The Maryville men's basketball team nearly knocked off No. 1 Bellarmine but the Knights rallied to force overtime and prevailed 89-83. The Saints had three players score at least 20 points.
Casey Teson led the way with 23 points while
Zach Colletta and
Bobby Harvey both adding 20 points apiece. The Saints shot 70 percent (14-of-20) in the second half in the near upset.

What Happened
In the second half, the Saints were up 43-42 and Colletta scored on a three-point play. Harvey drilled his fifth 3-pointer of the game as Maryville led 49-42 with 11:24 to play. After a Bellarmine score, Teson hit two free throws, and another hoop by Colletta gave the Saints their biggest lead of the game at 53-44 at the 9:23 mark. A layup by Colletta with 8:10 to play matched the nine-point lead at 57-48. The Knights chipped away at the Maryville lead and tied the game at 67-all. Dezmond McDaniel sank a jumper for a 71-67 advantage with 1:33 remaining. BU hit a 3-pointer and Adam Eberhardt hit one free throw that tied the game 71-71 and eventually forced overtime.

In the extra session, Colletta opened with a jumper and sank two free throws as the Saints opened up a 75-71 lead. Bellarmine tied the game at 75-75 with 3:13 to play. Teson sank a long 3-pointer for a 78-75 lead. Eberhardt made one free throw to trim the deficit to two. CJ Fleming hit a 3-pointer to push the Knights ahead 79-78 with 1:36 left. The Knights scored the next four points and did not allow the Saints to get any closer.

Teson hit four 3-pointers en route to 23 points. Colletta finished with 20 points, one short of his career high. Harvey drilled six of seven attempts from behind the arc and scored a season-high 20 points.
Eugene Jones dished out a career-high seven assists.
