The Maryville volleyball team made the short trek down Conway Road to take on No. 1 Missouri Baptist Tuesday night. The Spartans kept the Saints offense in check to win 25-16, 25-19, 25-14.
Allison Lakin pounded down a season-best 11 kills while hitting .318 to pace the Maryville offense.

What Happened
Lakin had two straight kills to create a 6-6 tie in the opening set. The score was tied three more times, the last at 11-11 after an MBU error. But the Spartans tallied four straight. The Saints cut their deficit to 16-14 but would not get any closer. In set two, kills by
Faith Ahlhardt and
Mikaela Kues put the Saints on top 3-1. A
Cassidy Arndt termination was good for a 4-3 edge but the Spartans used a 10-1 burst to take control. Maryville went on a 5-0 run to close to 17-13 but MBU kept the lead. The home side went on an early 8-0 spree to jump ahead.
