Saints Earn Split of Day One at Crossover Tournament; Lose to Lake Superior but Sweep Purdue Northwest

The Maryville volleyball team earned a split on day one of the 2019 Crossover Tournament Friday in Indianapolis. The Saints went four sets against Lake Superior State but the Lakers won 3-1. In the final match, Maryville dominated in a 3-0 sweep of Purdue Northwest.
 
Lake Superior recap
The Saints hit the ball well in set one but LSSU was a bit better to take the opener 25-21. Maryville bounced back by ripping the ball at a .300 clip and turned the tables by evening the match 25-21. The Saints offense could not continue its play in the third as the Lakers went up 25-16. In the final set, the Saints battled to the end by LSSU held off Maryville 25-23.

Mikaela Kues had a monster all-around match with 10 kills, while hitting .304, with seven assists and six service aces to pace the Saints to a 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 victory over Purdue Northwest. Maryville battled to win the opening set before cranking out a .381 hitting percentage to dominate set two. The Saints had one of their best runs of the season during an 11-0 spree. In the final set, the Saints committed just three errors and hit at a .355 clip to post the sweep. The Saints hit .278 in the match while holding the Pride to a .058 mark. Their 10 aces tied for their second most in a season.
