Louisville, Ky. – After trailing at halftime,
Grady Schliepsiek scored midway through the second frame to propel the 24
th-ranked Maryville men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw against No. 10 Bellarmine Friday evening at O.B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
What Happened – The Knights opened the scoring in the 29
th minute as they scored off a set piece to take a 1-0 lead. Schliepsiek evened the match in the 65
th minute as he collected a pass from
Helmut Florencia and slotted a shot from eight yards out into the lower left corner of the goal to make the score 1-1. The defenses for both teams took control the rest of the way to force the extra sessions. Bellarmine held a 4-2 advantage in shots in the overtimes but could not break through against the Saints defense.
Inside the Numbers – Max Simonazzi was credited with eight saves in the contest to lead the Maryville defense. This is the third consecutive match that the Saints and Bellarmine have played to a draw.
