William Jewell Recap
The Maryville volleyball team was looking to extend its winning streak to three straight but host William Jewell stopped the Saints in Liberty, Mo., Friday night. The Cardinals edged the Saints in two tight sets and eventually prevailed 25-23, 25-23, 25-7.
What Happened
The Saints were down 23-21 in the first set before Elizabeth Eardly pounded down two straight kills to tie the set 23-all. However, the Cardinals regrouped to score the final two points. The second set was close again, and a Cassidy Arndt kill put the Saints up 23-22. However, WJC tallied three consecutive points to again topple Maryville.
Early in the third set, the Cardinals scored four straight points to surge ahead. Allison Lakin had a kill, and a block by Eardly and Mikaela Kues kept the Saints close. However, the Cardinals went on a 7-2 run and pulled away to end the match. The Cardinals hit a sizzling .600 to key the win.Â
