Helmut Florencia scored late in the first half while
Max Simonazzi collected three saves to aid the 24
th-ranked Maryville men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 17 McKendree Sunday afternoon at Leemon Field in Lebanon, Ill.
What Happened – The two teams squared off in a defensive battle for the first 43 minutes of the match. Florencia took a pass from
Vittorio Sasso placed a shot that hit the inside of the crossbar and found its way into the goal to give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute. The Bearcats had a pair of opportunities in the second half, but Simonazzi made two of his three saves to McKendree off the scoreboard.
Inside the Numbers – Maryville held an 11-6 advantage in shots while placing five of those on frame. Simonazzi earned his fourth win of the season and also garnered his fourth clean sheet. This is the second ranked foe that the Saints have defeated this season.
